Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Association with Klippel-Trénaunay Syndrome: A Case Report

author

Abstract:

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome is a rare congenital condition that rarely affects peripheral nerves. Median nerve involvement at carpal tunnel level has only been reported in a few   occasions in the medial literature. A 61 years old Caucasian female patient with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome presented with a 10 months history of paraesthesiae and numbness affecting the median nerve distribution area of her left hand. Clinical and neurophysiological examination confirmed a moderately severe carpal tunnel syndrome that required surgical decompression. Perioperative findings demonstrated diffuse vascular infiltration and ingurgitation of the median nerve involving its entire exposed segment. Flexor tendons had a normal appearance. Patient had a satisfactory post-operative period with full resolution of her symptoms four weeks after the procedure. Although peripheral nerves are rarely affected in patients with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, neurological symptoms could indicate nerve involvement and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination should be considered to further assess the extension of the lesion.

Topiramate-induced Neuropathy Mimicking Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Case Report

Carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a condition in which median nerve compression results in paresthesias and pain in thewrist and hand. We are going to report a rare case of topiramate-induced neuropathy which clinically resembles CTS.Discontinuation of topiramate resulted in spontaneous resolution of numbness, paresthesia and pain in a few days. Highclinical suspicion is advised in patients who a...

Klippel Trénaunay syndrome.

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome (KTS) is an uncommon entity. This congenital malformation is characterized by the triad of soft tissue or bony hypertrophy, cutaneous vascular malformations, and atypical venous abnormalities. We report here a case of KTS and discuss the clinical features, investigations, and management of this enigmatic condition.

Klippel–Trénaunay Syndrome – A Very Rare and Interesting Syndrome

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome (KTS or KT) is an infrequently seen dermatological syndrome, which is often viewed as a triad of vascular malformation (capillary malformations or port-wine brands), venous varicosity, and soft tissue and/or bony hypertrophy. We report a case of a 12-year-old male who presented to us with the symptoms of varicose plaques over both lower limbs and was diagnosed as a ca...

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Childhood: Report of a Case.

Wasting of the thenar muscles secondary to traumatic or degenerative lesions around the wristjoint has been recognised for over 100 years. In 1863 Sir James Paget described a patient whose median nerve was compressed by callus after a fracture at the wrist. Many examples of median nerve compression have since been reported where the capacity of the carpal tunnel has been reduced by osseous prot...

Deep venous thrombosis and Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome.

A 27 year old male with a history of Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, who consults for pain and swelling in his left arm. On examination, there was an aberrant member enlargement and varicose veins, localized only at the forearm and left hand. (Fig.s 1,2). Coagulation: D-dimer 3.58 mg/L. Doppler ultrasound showed thrombosis of the distal end of the left brachial vein and main branches dependent. He ...
